Editing a Product's Hazard Ratings

Note: This feature is available only to administrators and to inventory assistants with permission to edit product data.

Hazard ratings represent a product's hazards (health dangers, flammability, and chemical reactivity/instability) and other information as numeric ratings or short codes. These ratings are organized and displayed in two standard pictograms. If the product has no recorded GHS pictograms or signal words, these two pictograms appear in the upper right on the Product Information page:

You can edit any of these ratings for a product. When the product has no recorded GHS Pictograms or GHS Signal Words, your changes are shown in the NFPA and HMIS pictograms in the upper right of the Product Information page. (For details, see Viewing a Product: Hazard Information.)

To edit a product's hazard ratings:

Starting at the Product Information page (How do I get there?), do the following:

  1. Click the EDIT button at the top of the display.

Note: This button appears only when you are logged in as a) an administrator, or b) an inventory assistant with permission to edit product data.

The Information Administration page opens, showing the areas of product data you can edit.

  2. In the Modify Indexes area, click Hazards.

The Hazard Classifications display opens, showing the product's current hazard classifications.

  3. In the upper left, select Ratings.

The Hazard Ratings display opens, showing the product's current hazard ratings in NFPA and HMIS pictograms.

  4. In the pictograms' fields, edit the product's hazard ratings as desired.

Note: If you need to refer to the product's MSDS, click [View MSDS] in the upper right to open the product's MSDS in a new window.

  5. Click Save in the lower right.

The new hazard ratings are saved. If the product's top bar shows NFPA/HMIS pictograms, the new ratings are shown here.
